Privacy Policy

Last updated:

The short version: CynphoCode doesn't require an account to learn. We store your theme preference and learning progress locally in your browser — not on our servers. If you create an account, we collect only what's needed to run it. We use Google Fonts, a CDN for icons, and (for site upkeep) Google AdSense, each of which is described below.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how CynphoCode ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit cynphocode.com (the "Platform"). We built CynphoCode to be usable without an account, so most of your activity never touches our servers at all.

2. Information Stored Locally in Your Browser

To make the Platform work without requiring an account, we store the following directly in your browser's localStorage — this data never leaves your device or reaches our servers:

  • Theme preference — whether you've chosen light or dark mode
  • Learning progress — which pages you've visited, lesson completion state, and quiz results, used to power the Progress Dashboard
  • Bookmarks — any projects or lessons you've saved
  • Dismissed banners — e.g. whether you've closed the Premium course offer for the current session

You can clear this data at any time via your browser settings, or use the "Reset all progress data" option on the Progress Dashboard.

3. Account Information

If you create an account (currently in development), we collect:

  • Your name and email address
  • A securely hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text)
  • Account activity such as login timestamps, for security purposes

We use this information solely to operate your account, sync your progress across devices, and communicate with you about the service. We do not sell this information to third parties.

4. Contact Form Submissions

When you submit our Contact form, we collect your name, email address, selected topic, and message content in order to respond to your inquiry. We retain this information only as long as needed to resolve your request.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

CynphoCode itself does not use tracking cookies. However, third-party services we rely on may set their own cookies:

  • Google AdSense — may use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized advertising based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
  • Session storage — used to remember if you've dismissed certain banners during your current browsing session; cleared automatically when you close your browser tab.

6. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of external services to run the Platform:

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) — for typography. Google's privacy policy applies to font requests.
  • jsDelivr CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net) — hosts open-source language and technology icons used throughout the site.
  • Google AdSense — displays advertisements that help keep CynphoCode free. See Section 5 above.

These providers may log standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) as part of serving their content, governed by their own privacy policies.

7. How We Use Information

Any information we do collect (account details, contact form submissions) is used only to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Platform
  • Respond to your questions and support requests
  • Send you updates you've explicitly subscribed to (e.g. the newsletter)
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or security issues

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share limited data with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Platform (e.g. hosting), under confidentiality obligations
  • Advertising partners (Google AdSense), limited to what's described in Section 5
  • Law enforcement, if required by valid legal process

9. Children's Privacy

CynphoCode is intended for learners aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Data Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect any information we hold, including hashed password storage and secure connections (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your account data
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time
  • Clear all locally-stored data yourself, instantly, via the Progress Dashboard or your browser settings

To exercise any of these rights regarding account or contact-form data, please contact us.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
